Dag 2
Today we have been to a village meeting with the tribal chief for Kasane and chiefs och deputy chiefs for other settlements in the district. They summon villagers in the municipality in order to spread information and to give them the opportunity to participate in discussions.
Idag hade de kallat till bymöte för att informera om vårt projekt med fokus på personer med funktionsnedsättningar.
Today they had called to a meeting to inform about our project with focus on persons with disabilities.
Membe (projektansvarig i Botswana) informerade om:
-Att projektet fokuserar på att personer med funktionsnedsättningar ska få självbestämmande, delaktighet och ett individuellt stöd.
-Att de i besöket i Sverige sett hur de kan arbeta med dessa delar för att personer med funktionsnedsättningar ska få en tydligare del i samhället och bli respekterade samt representerade.
Det var två föräldrar delaktiga under mötet som berättade om egna erfarenheter. En av kvinnorna berättade att hon hade en son som hade svårigheter att komma hemifrån och att kommunicera. Hon uttryckte tacksamhet för att få möjlighet att delta i mötet. Under mötet fick hon en kontakt med kommunen som kommer att kontakta henne angående eventuella insatser.
Det var ett häftigt möte och det blev tydligt för oss att det är här det kommer att ske en förändring. Efter bymöten träffas grannar och familjer och nätverkar och informationen sprids vidare. Vi upplever mycket positivitet kring vårt arbete med projektet.
I morgon flyger vi till huvudstaden för fler spännande möten
Membe (project leader in Botswana) informed:
-that the project is focused on giving persons with disabilities the ability to decide for themselves, to be part of the decision making processes and to give them individual support.
-that during their visit to Sweden they had seen how they could work in these areas so that persons with disabilities should have a greater role to play in society, become respected and represented.
There were two parents at the meeting who spoke of their own experiences. One of the women told us that she had a son whom had difficulties in getting out and in communicating. She was grateful for having the opportunity to participate in the meeting. Thanks to the meeting the municipality would be getting in touch with her about appropriate support.
It was an uplifting meeting and it became apparrent that changes were taking place. After the village meeting neighbours and families use their networks to spread the information. We experienced much positivity about our work with the project.
Tomorrow we will be flying to the capital for more interesting meetings.
